How do I recognize fleas & what types are there?
Fleas can cause significant discomfort. You’d rather be rid of the critters than have them around. Have the pests dealt with as soon as possible and leave the treatment to a professional.
Are there multiple species of fleas?
There are many different types of fleas. In Belgium, the most common fleas found in homes are the cat flea, the rat flea, or the dog flea. The critters look very similar to each other. Fleas are tiny parasites, measuring 1 to 3 mm in size, typically with a red or brownish color. Fleas bite humans, usually on the feet or lower legs. This can cause red spots and itching. Fleas don’t live permanently on their host but only jump on to feed, and they can jump up to 350 times their body length. So when you walk by, the flea jumps to bite you.
1. Cat flea
The most common flea in Belgium. This species of flea doesn’t just bother cats. People and dogs can also be bothered.
2. Dog flea
The dog flea is much less common than the cat flea. However, dog fleas can also cause a lot of nuisance. The bites can be very itchy.
What about do-it-yourself remedies from the internet or the store?
Minor flea infestations can often be treated with do-it-yourself methods. You can find these in our webshop. For major infestations, it’s better to seek assistance from a professional. For larger infestations, the right pesticides are needed, which are only accessible to professionals. That’s because the biocides used are often highly toxic. A professional knows how to handle this, understands the risks of usage, and knows how to protect themselves, you, and your environment from the dangers of the poison.

What treatment methods are available for fleas?
Fleas often enter the home through pets such as dogs or cats. It’s also possible that rats or mice are bringing the pests indoors. Be careful: bedbugs and fleas are often confused with each other. You need to know where the problem is coming from first. Have your pet checked by a veterinarian. Next, there are several methods for controlling fleas.
Chemical method
For persistent problems, professional control is the only solution. A professional exterminator, like Eversor, may use biocides. An exterminator comes by. First, it is determined whether it is indeed fleas and not, for example, bed bugs. The expert begins with an inspection to determine the infestation sources of the fleas. Once the risk areas are identified, biocides are sprayed in the necessary places. The fleas will die immediately. After the treatment, you will be advised to vacuum thoroughly. It’s also important that all pets are treated by a veterinarian.
Do-it-yourself methods
For smaller infestations, do-it-yourself solutions can offer a possibility. In the Eversor webshop, there are several items available for moth control.
Here are 3 do-it-yourself solutions below.
1. Insect spray
An insect spray can be very effective for smaller infestations. Spray on surfaces where the fleas are. The most logical places to spray are the areas where your pets often lie. In the Eversor webshop, you can find the most effective flea sprays that are approved in Belgium. These products also have a long-lasting effect. So you don’t have to worry about eggs hatching later.
2. Vacuuming
Sounds very simple, but for a small infestation, vacuuming can sometimes be sufficient. Always have your pet treated by a veterinarian first. Ensure that vacuuming is done as thoroughly as possible.
3. Heat or freezing
Wash all textiles at the hottest temperature possible, all temperatures higher then 60°C will effectively destroy eggs and kill the fleas. You can also freeze textiles if they cannot be washed at high temperatures. Leave the textiles in the freezer for at least 48 hours. Adult fleas die at temperatures below -1°C. In addition to washing, steaming can also help. The hot steam kills adult fleas and destroys flea eggs.

How does Eversor deal with flea nuisance?
As soon as you contact us, we get to work.
First, we prepare specifications of your situation. We look specifically at your case here. In doing so, we take into account the location and the desired result. Based on our findings, we will create a personalized treatment plan and quote for you.
If you agree to the treatment method, you will be contacted as soon as possible to schedule an appointment.
The method of treatment varies from case to case. We may expect to need several treatments to properly resolve your problem. It may require only a single appointment to fix your problem.
During our 1st visit, we always start with a brief conversation and visual inspection. From this, some tips regarding prevention, warding and hygiene almost always follow. With preventive treatments and with EverSmart, we do the installation and other works directly. After this, if necessary, we will begin treatment immediately. Whenever possible, we take a completely non-toxic or biological approach (following the IPM method). If this is not an option, we use biocides.
After the initial treatment is over, you will receive all findings and required documentation online.
In any follow-up treatment, which often occurs after several weeks, we perform an inspection first. This way we know to what extent the initial treatment was successful and where our plan needs to be adjusted. After a follow-up treatment, you will receive the necessary documentation online again.
After the treatment, you will receive some tips and possible preventive measures to keep pests away even in the long run. You will also receive additional tips and information regarding inspections.
9 times out of 10, the problem is solved after the scheduled treatments. If the problem is still not resolved we will look at possible next steps.
