Do you have pantry insects in your house?

Pantry insects are small insects that can contaminate food supplies. They are often found in storage areas, kitchens, and pantries. These insects can infest various types of food, including grains, flour, dried fruit, and nuts. Some common types include flour moths, grain weevils, and bread beetles. Pantry insects can lead to food waste and spoilage, causing hygiene issues. Think you are suffering from stock insects and want to know more about the critters? On this page, you’ll find all the information about pantry insects. A comprehensive guide on identification, detection, and treatment methods. You’re in the right place with Eversor for expert advice and professional treatments.

How do I recognize pantry insects?

Stock insects can cause many nuisances. You prefer to get rid of the pests as soon as possible. So, have the insects exterminated as soon as possible and leave the extermination to a professional.

What types are there?

There are hundreds of species of pantry insects in Belgium, quite a lot. For convenience, we distinguish between two groups: pantry moths and pantry beetles. If you are experiencing a fly infestation, it’s best to contact a professional pest control company as soon as possible.

1. Pantry beetles

Pantry beetles are insects that seek out tobacco or dry foods such as grains, rice, and nuts. The most common pantry beetles in Belgium are. Bread beetles, grain weevils, rice flour beetles, and drugstore beetles. You can encounter the beetles anywhere: at home, at work, in the garden, or while traveling. Anywhere there is food for the critters, they can be found. It’s mainly the larvae of the critters that cause the most damage. The food contaminated by pantry beetles often shows signs of contamination. A discolored appearance, clumping, shed skins, or cocoons of adult beetles can all indicate pantry beetles. Usually, the signs are found at the bottom or on the side of the product. It may also happen that the packaging of the product has round holes. These holes, also known as exit holes, are bored by the larvae to emerge once they become adults.

2. Pantry Moths

Pantry moths are moths that seek out food items. Often, these insects can be found among chocolate, nuts, pet food, pasta, or grain products. The most common types in Belgium are meal moths, grain moths, and fruit moths. It’s often difficult to detect early infestations. This is because the moths are not very visible.

What about do-it-yourself remedies from the internet or the store?

Starting infestations can often be tackled with do-it-yourself methods. You can find these in our webshop. For major infestations, it’s better to seek assistance from a professional. For larger infestations, the right pesticides are needed, which are only accessible to professionals. That’s because the biocides used are often highly toxic. A professional knows how to handle this, understands the risks of usage, and knows how to protect themselves, you, and your environment from the dangers of the poison.

What treatment methods are available against stock beetles & stock moths?

Problems with stock insects are diverse. There are many different types and the causes can vary widely. The problem must always be addressed at the source. When Eversor carries out a treatment, the exterminators always first look for the cause of the infestation and the type of insect. Then treatment methods can be considered.

Chemical method

For persistent problems, chemical extermination is often the only solution. A professional exterminator, like Eversor, may use biocides. Before an exterminator visits, your closets must be cleared out. The pest controller will come by and first investigate to determine the cause. After identifying the risk areas, contact insecticides are sprayed in the necessary locations. The problem should be resolved quickly after this.

Do-it-yourself methods

For small infestations, do-it-yourself solutions may be an option. In the Eversor webshop, there are several items available for moth control.

1. Insect spray

An insect spray can be very effective for smaller infestations. First, clear all the food out of the cupboards and make sure everything is very clean. Spray on surfaces where the insects are. In the Eversor webshop, you can find the most effective insect sprays that are authorized for use by individuals in Belgium. All products sold by Eversor have long after-effects. So you don’t have to worry about eggs hatching later on.

2. Moth Traps

A moth trap uses synthetic pheromones to attract male moths and trap them on a sticky surface, where they become stuck and eventually die. It helps reduce moth populations by capturing adult moths before they can lay eggs. Placing moth traps in strategic locations around the house or in storage areas can help control moth infestations by reducing the number of adult moths before they can lay eggs. Moth traps are effective only as part of a broader strategy. Otherwise, it’s like mopping with the tap running.

How does Eversor handle stock insect nuisances?

As soon as you contact us, we get to work.

First, we prepare specifications of your situation. We look specifically at your case here. In doing so, we take into account the location and the desired result. Based on our findings, we will create a personalized treatment plan and quote for you.

If you agree to the treatment method, you will be contacted as soon as possible to schedule an appointment.

The method of treatment varies from case to case. We may expect to need several treatments to properly resolve your problem. It may require only a single appointment to fix your problem.

During our 1st visit, we always start with a brief conversation and visual inspection. From this, some tips regarding prevention, warding and hygiene almost always follow. With preventive treatments and with EverSmart, we do the installation and other works directly. After this, if necessary, we will begin treatment immediately. Whenever possible, we take a completely non-toxic or biological approach (following the IPM method). If this is not an option, we use biocides.

After the initial treatment is over, you will receive all findings and required documentation online.

In any follow-up treatment, which often occurs after several weeks, we perform an inspection first. This way we know to what extent the initial treatment was successful and where our plan needs to be adjusted. After a follow-up treatment, you will receive the necessary documentation online again.

After the treatment, you will receive some tips and possible preventive measures to keep pests away even in the long run. You will also receive additional tips and information regarding inspections.

9 times out of 10, the problem is solved after the scheduled treatments. If the problem is still not resolved we will look at possible next steps.
