Do you need hornet control?

Hornets are larger than wasps and are increasingly causing problems in Belgium. Do you want to know more about hornets? Here you can find everything about the lifestyle of different species of hornets (Asian hornet, European hornet, etc.), what the costs are, how to recognize them, and methods to control them. You’ve come to the right place for expert advice.

How do I recognize the hornet?

A hornet infestation can cause a lot of nuisance and can also be very dangerous. If there are hornets in your garden or around your home, this can be very dangerous for children, pets, and even adults. Therefore, always leave the extermination to a professional.

So, how do you recognize the bug or the presence of a nest?

Above, you can see a photo of a hornet. As you can see, it looks very similar to a wasp. However, the hornet is significantly larger than a typical wasp. There are different species of hornets. The European hornet and the Asian hornet are the ones that have been most common in recent years. The nests are often found in trees, attics, or other sheltered places.

It’s important to proceed with professional extermination as soon as possible. A nest can grow quickly, posing a greater danger.

What about do-it-yourself remedies from the internet or the store?

We always strongly discourage doing it yourself. DIY remedies are not always effective, and moreover, it’s very dangerous for a non-professional to get close to a nest. Hornets can feel threatened when you approach the nest closely. Which will lead the hornets to attack. Some people can be allergic to a hornets’ sting. How does a treatment against hornets work?

It is recommended to control and remove hornets and wasps, but this does not apply to bees and bumblebees. These insects are essential for collecting pollen and play a crucial role in pollinating plants and various crops in the agricultural sector.

First, the nest must be located.

The exterminator searches for the nest. If you already know where the nest is, you direct the exterminator to its location. Depending on the location of the nest, a ladder or even a cherry picker may be required for extermination. Therefore, we always ask you beforehand if you know where the nest is and approximately at what height it is located before we come by.

Extermination of the nest

When the nest is located, the exterminator puts on protective clothing. This way, the exterminator can safely do their job. The extermination itself is done with biocides, or poison. The nest is sprayed with a powder using a powder sprayer. Often, this happens very quickly.

When is the nuisance over?

After the extermination has taken place, it takes a while before the hornets are no longer alive. In the hours following the treatment, the hornets can be very aggressive. So, make sure to stay away.

4 Tips against hornets:

Stay calm; waving your arms around can make wasps aggressive.

Don’t leave sweets out.

Stay away from the nest.

Keep pets and children away.

How does Eversor deal with hornet infestations?

As soon as you contact us, we get to work.

Before we arrive, we already assess your situation. We look specifically at your case here. We take into account the location of the nest and the presence of, for example, children. Based on our findings, we will prepare a treatment plan and quote for you completely free of charge.

If you agree to the treatment method, you will be contacted as soon as possible to schedule an appointment.

The method of treatment varies from case to case. For hornets, we expect to only need one treatment for a proper solution.

During the visit, we always start with a brief conversation and a visual inspection. Whenever possible, we proceed in a completely non-toxic manner (following the IPM method), this is useful when removing an old nest, for example. If this is not an option, we use biocides.

After the treatment, you will receive the necessary documentation online, such as the invoice if desired and the safety data sheets of the biocides used.

9 times out of 10, the problem is solved after the scheduled treatments. If the problem is still not resolved we will look at possible next steps.
